Negotiation frustration...
Okay so I had that make up class scheduled for today... negotiation and dispute resolution... from 12:30 til 2. So i rolled out of bed at 7:30 and instead of going to the gym I went for a run. The Vancouver Marathon is on May 7th and my goal is to finish in under four hours. I've set my target running speed at 7 miles per hour and happily I ran at that speed today...
I ran from 9 til 10 and then came home to get ready for class. I wrote last night about how much I hate make up classes... especially today. The wine and cheese was tonight and I needed the time to work on cover letters. Anyway, after showering and going for a haircut I got on my bike and went out to UBC. It's probably about a ten kilometer ride each way... I got to class. Sat down. Waited... finally a lady came in the room and asked if we were here for negotiation... yes, we were. Well, she said, the prof can't make it and class is cancelled. Cancelled... that made me... emotional. So I got back on my bike and peddled home again. See... the problem here is... well, I know things come up... and I genuinly hope it wasn't anything bad that came up... but really it's not just about wasted time today. What really disturbs me about all this is that there is going to be, at some point, another make up class scheduled to make up for the make up class that we didn't have today.
But enough about that. Tonight we had the wine and cheese for the Vancouver firms at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Because I'm on the articling committee I volunteered to go in early and sort name tags. I talked to a lot of people and, even though I don't hold out a lot of hope for finding a position next summer, I talked to some contacts I had made last year and got some fairly encouraging advice from them. Unfortunately I was forced to leave the event early when I realized that I had forgotten to set my VCR to tape Survivor.
Survivor was good. I think this one could be better than some of the one that have been on lately. Bobby Jon and Stephenie are back for this one, which is great, but Bobby Jon might not last too long if he keeps getting sick. The first thing the two tribes had to do was hike eleven miles through the jungle... the first one to get to the destination got the really good camp, while the second team to arrive got the not-so-good camp. Bobby Jon's team won, but their victory was short lived because four of the guys on the tribe got really sick with dehydration.
Of course Jeff Probst is all over that one. "Were you surprised that the four big guys got taken down so quickly while the women weren't affected?" is what he asks then... what's up with him and that sexist crap. It's like he's looking for an opportunity to make fun of the guys for not being manly enough. Seriously, why should it inspire surprise that the women weren't weak? They're in good shape and obviously have great endurance. They guys are a lot bigger and were carrying most the stuff so it's not surprising that they felt the effects a lot more.
But he always pulls crap like that... I remember in one of the other Survivors that gay guy... um... Colby I think his name was... beat a straight guy (who was a lot skinnier than Colby) in a wrestling competition. Probst was all questioning the straight guy saying "yeah so how does it feel to get whooped by a gay guy?" Like apparently this guy should feel ashamed that a gay guy beat him for some reason.
But enough about that. With two Survivors airing between now and April I'll have plenty of opportunity for Probst-bashing. Now... it's time for bed.
